Update - Troopers with the Louisiana State Police are requesting the public’s assistance in the location of the vehicles and suspects involved in a hit and run crash which resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
The initial findings of the investigation determined Theresa Matherne was struck by several unknown vehicles as she attempted to cross US Hwy 190 at LA Hwy 415 in order to assist a motorist involved in a separate vehicle collision on October 29, 2020, at 09:21 pm. Utilizing roadway evidence, vehicle parts left on scene, and video surveillance Troopers now know Matherne was struck as she entered the inside lane of US Hwy 190 eastbound by a light colored (gold/tan/silver) 2008-2012 Honda Accord. Video surveillance obtained by Troopers depicts the operator of the Honda Accord exit the roadway to the right after the collision and travel a short distance until the vehicle was stopped on the shoulder of US Hwy 190 near a local church. The operator exited the vehicle, discarded hanging and damaged vehicle parts, and fled the scene eastbound on US Hwy 190.

The light colored 2008-2012 Honda Accord suspect vehicle will have front passenger side damage to the bumper, hood, headlight assembly, and wheel well. This vehicle may also have windshield damage.

After being struck by the above described Honda, Matherne was again struck by a 2013-2016 Chevrolet Malibu. This vehicle has possibly sustained front bumper and undercarriage damage as a result of the collision.

Port Allen – Shortly after 9:30 pm on October 29, 2020, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on US Hwy 190 east of LA Hwy 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 57-year-old Theresa Matherne of Baton Rouge.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Matherne was walking in the eastbound lanes of US Hwy 190 to render assistance to motorists involved in a previous crash. While Matherne was walking in the roadway, she was struck by multiple eastbound vehicles. After striking Matherne, these vehicles fled the crash scene.

Matherne sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from Matherne for analysis.

Troopers are now asking for your assistance in locating the hit and run vehicles and drivers. Troopers urge anyone with any information regarding this crash to contact Louisiana State Police Troop A at 225-754-8500.
