Houma – On December 14, 2025, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 57 and Thompson Road in Terrebonne Parish. The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Pernell Naquin of Houma. 
  
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2021 Buick Encore was traveling south on LA Hwy 57. At the same time, a 2008 Honda Civic, driven by Naquin, was traveling north on LA Hwy 57. For reasons still under investigation, the Buick failed to yield to the approaching Honda, entered the intersection, and was struck.  
  
Naquin, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Buick was unrestrained, sustained moderate injuries, and was transported to an out-of-area hospital. 

Routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers for analysis. 

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being severely injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries during crashes.
