Arabi – On Saturday, October 25, 2025, around 12:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a single-vehicle crash on LA 39 at Schnell Drive in St. Bernard Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 64-year-old Scott Sanders of Metairie. The preliminary investigation revealed that Sanders was driving a 2025 Hyundai Palisade north on LA 39 near Schnell Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the Hyundai ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a reinforced steel billboard support pillar. Sanders was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology results are pending. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers want to remind the public that although not all crashes are survivable, wearing your seatbelt drastically decreases your chance of injury or death during a crash. Additionally, distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state.
