Port Allen – On November 11, 2023, shortly after 6:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash on LA 415 at LA 986 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of nine-year-old, Braelynn Washington of Port Allen. The initial investigation revealed that a 2017 Jeep Cherokee was headed south on LA 415. At the same time, a2020 Chevrolet Blazer was headed north on LA 415. As the Jeep attempted to make a left turn at the intersection, the Chevrolet struck the passenger front side of the Jeep.
Every occupant in a motor vehicle is required by Louisiana law to be properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. The proper use of child safety seats save lives and prevent injuries. Child safety seats offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash; however, approximately 3 out of 4 car seats are not used correctly. Troop A is a nationally recognized Child Seat Fitting Station.
