| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE January 19, 2013 Fatal Crash Claims Life of Unrestrained Livonia Man New Roads - This morning shortly before 4:30 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 1 south of LA Hwy 78 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 72 year old Livonia resident Willet Jarreau, Jr. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Jarreau, Jr. was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on LA Hwy 1. For unknown reasons Jarreau, Jr. failed to negotiate a right hand curve, and his vehicle ran off the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway, Jarreau’s vehicle struck a driveway embankment and became airborne before coming to rest on the passenger side. Jarreau, Jr. was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Driver impairment is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Jarreau, Jr. to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: TFC Jared L.
