Two Vehicle Fatal Crash Results in Death of Port Allen Man

Baton Rouge - This evening shortly after 7:45 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US Hwy 190 west of Scenic Hwy. near the Huey P. Long Bridge in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 60 year old Port Allen resident Wilson Battley, Jr.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 51 year old Smackover, Arkansas resident Alvester Moore, Jr. was driving a 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer eastbound on US Hwy 190. Moore, Jr. was attempting to turn left off of US Hwy 190 onto a private driveway. At the same time, Battley, Jr. was driving a 2006 Cadillac Escalade westbound on US Hwy 190. As Moore, Jr. crossed the westbound lanes of travel, Battley, Jr.’s Escalade struck Moore, Jr.’s trailer. The Escalade became stuck under the trailer and was dragged north off of US Hwy 190 onto the private driveway.

Despite the fact that he was wearing a seatbelt, Battley, Jr. sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Driver impairment on the part of Moore, Jr. is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from him to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, and charges may be pending.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving. NEVER drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road.
