Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A NEWS RELEASE February 5, 2013 Impairment / No Seatbelt Factors in Third Fatal Crash of the Day Prairieville – This evening shortly after 5:00 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 44 north of LA Hwy 931 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 21 year old Brady K. Delaune of Gonzales. This is the third fatal crash in a 10 hour period that Troop A has investigated. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Delaune was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound on LA Hwy 44. For unknown reasons, Delaune’s vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. Delaune overcorrected, and his vehicle reentered the roadway and crossed into the southbound lane of travel. Upon doing so, the Chevrolet pickup struck a 2008 Pontiac G8 being driven southbound by 32 year old St. Amant resident Britney P. Bertucci. Delaune was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Impairment on the part of Delaune is suspected, and Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from him to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Bertucci and a two year old infant were properly restrained, and sustained only moderate injuries from the crash. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Louisiana State Troopers remind drivers that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Troopers will continue to enforce Louisiana’s DWI laws across the state and remain committed to a public education campaign to end impaired driving. Have a plan and designate a driver before you decide to operate a vehicle while impaired. Troopers also wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained.
