Single-Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Baton Rouge Man Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a single-vehicle crash shortly before 7:00 am this morning in Iberville Parish. Troopers’ initial investigation revealed that Daniel Parker (B/M, age 37) of Baton Rouge was driving a 1994 Mazda 626 south on LA 991 north of LA 75 when he entered an “S” curve. While in the curve, Parker ran off the road to the left, struck a culvert, and became airborne. The Mazda then struck a utility pole, overturned, and came to rest on its roof in the ditch. Parker was not properly restrained and was partially ejected during the crash. Troopers believe that Parker had the shoulder portion of the seat belt behind his back when the crash occurred. The Iberville Parish Coroner pronounced Parker deceased at the scene. Troopers do not suspect alcohol to have played a factor in the crash. However, they have submitted a sample of Parker’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Troopers do suspect that speed, a wet roadway, and the poor condition of the tires on the vehicle were all contributing factors in the crash. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of buckling up every time they get into the vehicle. Equally as important as buckling the seat belt is ensuring that you are properly restrained. Louisiana law requires that everyone in the vehicle, regardless of seating position, have a seat belt properly fastened any time the vehicle is in a forward motion.
