Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE Two Men Arrested After Stealing Books BATON ROUGE- On August 27, 2008 at approximately 12:00 p.m., troopers with State Police-Troop A apprehended a pair of suspects on Highland Road after they stole items from an LSU area bookstore. Michael Barback (W/M, age 29) and Nicholas Kalivoda (W/M, age 24) were both arrested by troopers after they attempted to steal books from the Co-Op Bookstore, located on Burbank Drive near Nicholson Drive. The pair grabbed a set of books, ran out of the store, and attempted to flee in their vehicle. The owner of the store, former Louisiana State Trooper Chris Prescott, pursued the pair and attempted to confront them in the parking lot. Barback struck Prescott with his vehicle as he fled the parking lot. Prescott, who was not injured in the incident, called State Police Troop A and gave troopers a description of the vehicle and the suspects. Troopers observed the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on Highland Road near Pecue Lane and were able to stop the vehicle and take the two men into custody. Both men were charged with Theft of Goods and Aggravated Battery and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. For more information contact: Sgt. Markus L.
