A 2008 Kia Spectra was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near milepost 170 in the left lane when the driver lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road to the left. The vehicle entered the center median where it struck a tree. The driver, a 57-year old white female, died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash. The driver was wearing her seatbelt and alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this crash. Blood was taken from the driver and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. The Louisiana State Police stresses the importance of staying off of the roadways during the approach of Hurricane Gustav. Dangerous winds, tornadoes, and heavy rans make it unsafe to travel. Seek shelter and stay in place until after the storm has past. Do not drive in hurricane affected areas after the storm until officials announce it is safe to do so.
