Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Insurance Checkpoint Conducted in Livingston Parish BATON ROUGE- On Tuesday, October 07, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A conducted an insurance checkpoint on LA 1026, Lockhart Road at North Park in Livingston Parish. During the checkpoint, 232 vehicles were screened, a number of citations were issued for various violations, and one driver was arrested for D.W.I. The results of the checkpoint are as follows: - 15 License plates seized for insurance violations - 3 vehicles were towed due to no insurance - 1 vehicle was towed due to not being registered and the driver not being licensed - 2 citations issued for expired motor vehicle inspection stickers - 6 citations were issued for driver’s license violations - 3 citations were issued for vehicle license plate violations - 2 citations were issued for vehicle registration violations - 2 citations were issued for failure to wear seatbelts - 1 citation was issued for no or improper child restraint use Louisiana state law requires all vehicles registered in Louisiana have valid proof of insurance in the vehicle when traveling on public roadways. Troopers will continue to conduct random insurance checkpoints around the Troop A area in an effort to ensure compliance with mandatory insurance coverage laws and to increase public safety on Louisiana highways.
