Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE October 9, 2008 Insurance Checkpoint Yields High Numbers BATON ROUGE- On Wednesday, October 09, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A conducted an insurance checkpoint on LA 16 at East Over Boulevard. This was the third time in three days that Troop A has conducted an insurance checkpoint, with the highest volume of vehicles screened and the largest number of citations written. During this checkpoint, Troopers screened 384 vehicles and the results are as follows: - 22 license plates seized for insurance violations - 4 vehicles towed due to no insurance - 4 citations issued for illegal window tint - 16 citations issued for expired motor vehicle inspections - 9 citations issued for driver’s license violations - 3 citations issued for vehicle license plate violations - 1 citation issued for vehicle registration violations - 3 citations issued for no or improper child restraint use - 6 notice of violation tickets (warning tickets) for various vehicle violations State Troopers continue to see a high number of insurance violations as well as various other violations at these checkpoints. Troopers will continue to conduct random insurance checkpoints around the Troop A area in an effort to ensure compliance with mandatory insurance coverage laws and to increase public safety on Louisiana highways.
