Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE Overturned Tractor-Trailer Closes Entrance Ramp At 2:18 PM, on Sunday, July 27, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Hazardous Material section was notified of a crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer carrying sodium hydroxide. The crash occurred on the Interstate 10 (west) entrance ramp, from LA Hwy 30 in Gonzales, LA. A Freightliner hauling sodium hydroxide (commonly known as caustic soda) traveled west on LA Hwy 30 and began making a left turn onto the Interstate 10 (west) entrance ramp. As the Freightliner turned, the load shifted causing the vehicle to roll onto its right side. The Gonzales Police Department closed the entrance ramp, while hazardous material teams from Louisiana State Police, Gonzales Fire Department, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and United Environmental Services transferred the sodium hydroxide to an undamaged tanker. After the transfer was complete, Trading Post heavy-duty wreckers set the vehicle upright and the entrance ramp re-opened at 10:25 PM. The driver of the Freightliner, David Brown (Male/Age 25) of Jackson, LA, did not sustain injury. Mr. Brown is charged with Careless Operation (Gonzales Police Department) and Careless Handling of Hazardous Material (State Police – Hazardous Material). For more information contact: S/T Johnnie L.
