TROOP A NEWS RELEASE June 1, 2023 Impairment Suspected in Fatal Pointe Coupee Parish Crash Batchelor – Earlier this morning, shortly after 1:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle crash on LA 417 west of LA 418 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 64-year-old John Goode of Batchelor. The initial investigation revealed that Goode was driving a 2012 Ford F-350 headed north on LA 418. For reasons still being investigated, Goode exited the roadway near the intersection of LA 418 and LA 417 then struck an embankment prior to coming to rest. Goode was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, impairment is unknown on the part of Goode, but a routine toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to remind all motorists that if you feel differently, you drive differently. Alcohol, prescription medication, and other drugs have many effects on the body that negatively affect driving skills. These drugs can impair visual ability, alter the sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and designate a sober driver. Not wearing your seatbelt could be the difference between life and death.
