Unrestrained Zachary Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

Baton Rouge – This evening, shortly after 5:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle crash on LA 67 near Blount Road in East Baton Rouge Parish.  The crash ultimately claimed the life of 66-year-old Swill Charles of Zachary.

The initial investigation revealed that Charles was driving a 2020 Ford F-250 headed north on LA 67.   For reasons still being investigated, Charles ran off the roadway to the right, struck an embankment, and entered a canal.

Charles was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from his vehicle.  As a result, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was taken from Swill for scientific analysis.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics demonstrate that properly worn restraints can significantly reduce your risk of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in crashes.  Please take some time to speak with your love ones about the importance of making safe decisions while driving.
