Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE School Year Traffic Safety Reminders BATON ROUGE- State Police Troop A is reminding drivers that schools are back in session. It is imperative drivers follow simple rules and know our state laws to keep our children safe. · Pay close attention to school zone speed limits-School zones are in effect · Passing vehicles is not allowed in school zones or crosswalks · Pedestrians in designated crosswalks have the right-of-way · Vehicles must stay at least 30 feet behind stopped school buses · It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus that is loading or unloading children Rules to teach your children: · Do not cross the street alone if you are younger than 10 years old. · Always STOP at the curb before crossing the street. · Walk, do not run across the street. · Look LEFT, RIGHT, and LEFT again before crossing. · Walk facing traffic. · Make sure drivers see you before crossing the street in front of them. · Cross at least 10 feet in front of a school bus. · At railroad crossings, stop and look both ways, if on a bike walk it across the crossing. · When riding a bicycle always wear a bicycle helmet. · When wearing a bicycle helmet, make sure it fits snug on your head. Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A will be enforcing traffic laws and school zone speed limits around Troop A area schools. Together, we can ensure a safe school year.
