BATON ROUGE- On Wednesday, October 08, 2008 from 9:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A conducted an insurance checkpoint on LA 43 in Springfield, LA. During the checkpoint, Troopers screened 178 vehicles. The results of the checkpoint are as follows:

- 10 license plates seized for insurance violations
- 5 vehicles towed due to no insurance
- 7 citations issued for illegal window tint
- 10 citations issued for expired motor vehicle inspections
- 4 citations issued for driver’s license violations
- 1 citation issued for vehicle license plate violations
- 2 citations issued for vehicle registration violations
- 2 citations issued for no or improper child restraint use
- 1 citation issued for disobeying a police officer

Louisiana state law requires all vehicles registered in Louisiana have valid proof of insurance in the vehicle when traveling on public roadways. This is the second insurance checkpoint performed by Troop A in as many days. Troopers will continue to conduct random insurance checkpoints around the Troop A area in an effort to ensure compliance with mandatory insurance coverage laws and to increase public safety on Louisiana highways.
