Vehicle Owner and Driver Go to Jail

This week Louisiana State Police – Detectives arrested a couple for their involvement in a hit-and-run crash. The crash occurred Saturday, May 3, 2008, on LA Hwy 37 south of LA Hwy 3034 in East Baton Rouge Parish.

A Toyota Camry traveled north on LA Hwy 37, while a Ford Expedition traveled south on LA Hwy 37. The Toyota crossed the double yellow lines and crashed into the Ford. The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to rotate, forcing the Ford to come to a rest in the southbound lane and the Toyota in the northbound lane. An eyewitness and the driver of the Toyota removed the driver of the Ford from her vehicle after the crash.

The driver of the Ford, Sylvia B. Smith (Female/Age 39) of Greenwell Springs, LA, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Our Lady of The Lake Hospital. The driver of the Toyota was not injured and left the scene on foot before a law enforcement officer arrived. Troopers cleared the crash scene and began working to identify the driver of the Toyota.

Several days later, State Police – Detectives and Crime Laboratory were called to assist with identifying the driver of the Toyota. After meeting with the owner of the Toyota and collecting evidence, troopers learned that within thirty minutes after the crash, the owner of the Camry contacted the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and filed a report indicating that her vehicle had been stolen. Detectives also discovered that the owner’s boyfriend was the driver of the Toyota on the night of the crash.

On Monday, June 23, 2008, detectives arrested the owner of the Toyota, Samantha Feske (Female/Age 19) of Denham Springs, LA, and booked her into the Livingston Parish Prison for Filing False Public Records, Obstruction of Justice and Accessory After the Fact to Negligent Injuring and Hit-and-run Driving. On Wednesday, June 25, 2008, detectives arrested the driver of the Toyota, Jake Rodriguez (Male/Age 23) of Walker, LA, and booked him into the Livingston Parish Prison for Hit-and-run Driving, Negligent Injuring, Driving Under Suspension and Illegal Carrying of Weapons.
