Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Single-Vehicle Crash Claims the Life of Baton Rouge Man BATON ROUGE – On New Year’s Day, shortly after 3:00a.m., a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 23-year-old Baton Rouge man on Burbank Avenue (LA 42) west of Gardere Lane in East Baton Rouge Parish. Shankel M. Gladden (B/M, age 23) of Baton Rouge was driving a 2003 Nissan Frontier east on LA 42 when his vehicle crossed the center line, continued moving to the left across the median and westbound lanes and began to rotate. The pickup rolled over and came to rest facing west on the north side of the roadway. Gladden was properly restrained when the crash occurred, but sustained serious injuries. Baton Rouge EMS Ambulance transported Gladden to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries shortly after 11:00 a.m. yesterday. Driver impairment as a factor in the crash is unknown at this time. However, blood has been drawn and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
