| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Aggressive DWI Enforcement Continues….and Works!! BATON ROUGE – Louisiana State Police Troop A will continue to aggressively enforce the state’s DWI and seatbelt laws, as it has proven to be a valuable tool in saving lives and preventing tragedy. Troopers will be conducting another sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, January 3, 2009 in Livingston Parish in cooperation with Walker Police Department and Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office. This checkpoint will be conducted through the night Saturday into Sunday morning. Motorists are strongly encouraged to designate a driver or find alternate means of transportation if they intend to have anything to drink. Louisiana State Troopers have worked very hard to ensure safe driving conditions for the public. There has been a significant increase in the number of DWI arrests made throughout the year compared to last year. There has also been a very significant increase in the number of seat belt and child restraint citations issued. A very positive point to this is that there has been a significant decrease in the number of fatal crashes, injury crashes, and crashes involving driver impairment over the same time-period. The Louisiana Legislature and the Governor’s Office have made great strides in fighting the problem we have with impaired drivers on our roadways. The combination of tougher DWI laws and more Troopers on the road has been very effective in combating this devastating problem. We will be vigilant to ensure the number of crashes involving impairment, careless driving, and speed continues to decrease because of our efforts. For more information contact: Tpr Russell G.
