Unrestrained Driver Killed in Iberville Parish

BATON ROUGE – Shortly after 9:00 p.m. last night, a one-vehicle crash on LA 993 west of LA 404 claimed the life of a 28-year-old White Castle woman. Kirsch K. Kember (W/F, age 28) was driving a 2008 Mazda MZ3 north on LA 993 when she exited the roadway to the right. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle crossed a driveway, entered the ditch, struck a culvert, became airborne, and began to roll. Kirsch was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected as the vehicle flipped. She died because of her injuries in the crash. Kirsch was the only occupant in the vehicle when the crash occurred. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in this crash. However, blood has been taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

Although Louisiana State Troopers have seen an increase in overall seat belt use, there is still a problem with people not being properly restrained. Troopers will continue to aggressively enforce Louisiana’s seat belt and child restraint laws in an effort to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury crashes that occur in the state.
