Unrestrained Occupant Killed in Iberville Parish Crash
Maringouin – On October 29, 2022, shortly before 12:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 77 at Wheelock Lane. The crash ultimately claimed the life of the 44-year-old Courtney Terrel Davis of New Orleans.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 GMC pickup was traveling north on LA 77.  For reasons still being investigated, the driver failed to negotiate a left hand curve, ran off the road to right, and overturned.  Davis was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Davis suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene.  The second occupant of the GMC was also unrestrained, but sustained minor injuries.  As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from Davis for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation, as Troopers are working to confirm who was driving at the time of the crash.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics demonstrate that properly worn restraints can significantly reduce your risk of being injured or killed in a crash.  Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.  Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduced injuries in crashes.
