| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Pedestrian Struck and Killed on US 61 in East Baton Rouge BATON ROUGE – On Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 8:50 p.m. Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a serious injury crash involving a pedestrian on US 61 near Highland Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. Derrick Wayne Taylor (B/M, age 38) of Baton Rouge was attempting to cross US 61 when he stepped in front of a 1992 Chevrolet Pickup in the left northbound lane. The pickup, being driven by Thomas Porter (W/M, age 26) of Gonzales, struck Taylor with its left front fender and threw him into the grass median of Airline Highway. Taylor was seriously injured and transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. He was later pronounced dead by hospital staff at 11:59 p.m. Porter was uninjured as a result of the crash. State Police transported him to Troop A, where he voluntarily submitted to a chemical test for intoxication. The chemical test showed that Porter had no alcohol in his system. Alcohol use by Taylor is suspected to have been a factor in this crash and blood has been taken from Taylor and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
