| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE New Orleans Man Arrested After Short Pursuit BATON ROUGE - On Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at approximately 8:20 p.m., a Louisiana State Police Troop A Criminal Patrols Unit attempted to stop a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox in West Baton Rouge Parish on Interstate 10. The traffic stop quickly turned into a pursuit that ended in East Baton Rouge Parish after Troopers and Baton Rouge City Police teamed up successfully to bring the pursuit to an end. Dwayne H. Isom (B/M, age 28) of New Orleans was traveling east on Interstate 10 near milepost 147 when a Louisiana State Trooper noticed him following another vehicle too closely. The Trooper tried to stop the driver, but he continued traveling east at speeds up to 95 miles per hour. Other Troopers joined in the pursuit as Isom continued east over the Mississippi River Bridge. Troopers witnessed Isom throwing at least four plastic bags, believed to be at least four kilograms of cocaine, out of the window. The pursuit continued into East Baton Rouge Parish, where Baton Rouge City Police units also joined in the pursuit. As Isom passed the I-10/I-12 split, Troopers and Baton Rouge Police units were able to box him in and slow him down to less than 15 miles per hour. Isom then intentionally stopped abruptly and was struck from behind by one of the Troopers involved in the pursuit. There was very minor damage as a result of the crash and no one was injured. Isom was taken into custody and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison as a fugitive and then transported to and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Troopers secured the crime scene on the New Bridge and were able to gather over one half a kilogram of suspected cocaine and one small bag of suspected crack cocaine. Isom is charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II drugs, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Reckless Operation, and various other traffic charges. Isom’s bond has not yet been set. For more information contact: Tpr Russell G.
