Unrestrained Driver Killed in Head-On Collision in Livingston Parish

BATON ROUGE - On Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at approximately 8:50 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a two-vehicle crash on LA 442 at LA 441 in Livingston Parish which resulted in the death of a Holden resident.

Lacey N. Pourciau (W/F, age 21) of Hammond was traveling south on LA 441 in a 1994 Chevrolet Pickup when she attempted to make a left turn onto LA 442. Pourciau began traveling east on LA 442 in the westbound lane and came directly into the path of a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero, being driven west on LA 442 by Lisa M. Dykes (W/F, age 43) of Holden. The pickup struck the Oldsmobile head-on in the westbound lane, and both vehicles came to rest in the roadway. Dykes was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and died as a result of her injuries. Kari Hughes (W/F, age 20) of Livingston, riding in the right front passenger seat of the Alero, was also not wearing her seatbelt and was injured in the crash. She was brought to Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge by Acadian Ambulance. Hughes’ injuries were not life-threatening. The third occupant of the Alero, a 16 year-old white male, was riding in the rear seat, not wearing his seatbelt, and sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Pourciau and her passenger, Brian Medine (W/M, age 21) of Livingston, were both wearing seatbelts and only sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the crash. Pourciau was transported by Acadian Ambulance to North Oaks Hospital in Hammond. State Police Troop A has charged Pourciau with negligent homicide, 5 counts of negligent injuring, disregarding a stop sign, and expired motor vehicle inspection. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash, but blood was taken from both drivers and submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
