| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Denham Springs Man Dead After Motorcycle Crash Sunday BATON ROUGE – On Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 1:49 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a serious injury crash involving a motorcycle on US 61 (Airline Highway) north of LA 42 in Prairieville. Terry Douglas (W/M, age 32) of Denham Springs was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson Motorcycle north on US 61 in the left lane when he moved from the left lane across the right lane and into the continuous right turn lane. Douglas continued north in the right turn lane and attempted to pass a 2002 Mitsubishi compact car traveling in the right lane. The Mitsubishi, with its right turn signal activated, began to move into the right turn lane as Douglas was attempting to pass it on the right. The right rear corner of the Mitsubishi met the motorcycle and Douglas lost control and crashed onto the asphalt shoulder. Douglas and his passenger, Angela Latiolais (W/F, age 42) of Gonzales were both ejected from the motorcycle onto the shoulder. Douglas and Latiolais were both wearing novelty helmets that were not DOT approved. Both were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. On November 3, 2008 at 4:59 p.m., Terry Douglas died at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Latiolais’ injuries were not considered to be life threatening. David M. Mitchell (W/M, age 47) of Cantonment, FL was driving the Mitsubishi when the crash occurred. Regina S. Mitchell (W/F, age 60) of Cantonment, FL, Michael D. Holston (W/M, age 26) of Pensacola, FL, and Amanda C. Holston (W/F, age 21) of Pensacola, FL were all passengers in the Mitsubishi. All of the occupants of the Mitsubishi were wearing seatbelts and none of the occupants were injured as a result of the crash. Louisiana State Police would like to stress that seatbelt and helmet use saves lives. Occupants who are properly restrained in vehicles as well as riders who are wearing DOT approved helmets stand a much greater chance of survival and have a significantly lower rate of injuries resulting from crashes.
