Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Troopers Partner with EBR Sheriff’s Deputies for Successful Safety Checkpoint BATON ROUGE – On Tuesday November 19, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop A collaborated with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office to conduct a safety checkpoint on Bluebonnet Road near LA Highway 30. This well-coordinated checkpoint proved to be very successful. Troopers and Deputies screened 578 vehicles and issued 107 citations over a four-hour period. The results of the checkpoint are as follows: - 53 citations for expired or no motor vehicle inspection stickers - 16 citations for illegal window tint - 6 citations for drivers’ license violations - 9 citations for various license plate violations - 7 citations for seat belt violations - 5 citations for child restraint violations - 6 citations for not having proof of insurance - 1 citation for not having the vehicle insured (vehicle was towed and impounded) - 4 citations for vehicle registration violations - 1 citation for Improper Overtaking of a Police Vehicle (Driver was talking on a cell phone and never slowed for the checkpoint, even after being flagged down) These checkpoints play a vital role in keeping our roadways safe. Troopers will continue to conduct random checkpoints throughout the Troop A area to ensure that unsafe vehicles are removed from our roadways.
