Troopers Partner with EBR Sheriff’s Deputies for Successful Safety Checkpoint

BATON ROUGE – On Tuesday November 19, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop A collaborated with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office to conduct a safety checkpoint on Bluebonnet Road near LA Highway 30. This well-coordinated checkpoint proved to be very successful. Troopers and Deputies screened 578 vehicles and issued 107 citations over a four-hour period. The results of the checkpoint are as follows:

- 53 citations for expired or no motor vehicle inspection stickers
- 16 citations for illegal window tint
- 6 citations for drivers’ license violations
- 9 citations for various license plate violations
- 7 citations for seat belt violations
- 5 citations for child restraint violations
- 6 citations for not having proof of insurance
- 1 citation for not having the vehicle insured (vehicle was towed and impounded)
- 4 citations for vehicle registration violations
- 1 citation for Improper Overtaking of a Police Vehicle (Driver was talking on a cell phone and
never slowed for the checkpoint, even after being flagged down)

These checkpoints play a vital role in keeping our roadways safe. Troopers will continue to conduct random checkpoints throughout the Troop A area to ensure that unsafe vehicles are removed from our roadways. Troopers will also continue to aggressively enforce the state’s seatbelt and child restraint laws.
