Alcohol Impairment and Lack of Seatbelt Use Believed to be Factors in Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Livingston Parish

BATON ROUGE – On November 23, 2008 at 3:45 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA 1019 east of LA 447 in Livingston Parish. Jordan C. Manow (W/M, age 22) of Walker was driving his 1989 Chevrolet Pickup east on LA 1019 when he ran off the road to the right. The pickup travelled approximately 215 feet before it reentered the roadway and began to flip end over end. The pickup rolled over several times and ejected Manow, who was not wearing a seatbelt. Manow was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. The passenger in the pickup, Joshua Sibley (W/M, age 23) of Walker, was wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred and only sustained minor injuries in the crash. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in this crash and blood has been taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

Louisiana State Police continues to see a troubling problem here and around the state with the lack of seatbelt use. Wearing a seatbelt greatly improves chances of survival in crashes and greatly decreases the risk of serious injuries to the person not wearing the seatbelt as well as any other occupants or bystanders involved in a crash. While seatbelt use is on the rise in Louisiana and around the country, Troopers will continue to strictly enforce Louisiana’s Primary Seatbelt Law in an effort to continue to reduce the alarming number of deaths and serious injuries sustained by unrestrained drivers and occupants involved in crashes. The safest place to be when a vehicle overturns is inside the vehicle. The only way to ensure this is to be properly restrained with a seat belt.

BUCKLE UP, SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!!!
