| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Major Crash, Minor Injuries - THANKS to Seat Belts! BATON ROUGE – On November 26 at 10:48 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near the Prairieville exit. Three vehicles were involved in the crash covering both the eastbound and the westbound lanes. Herbert Cavalier (W/M, age 25) of Pierre Part was traveling east on Interstate 10 in a 2007 Ford Pickup when he sideswiped a 2003 Buick Century being driven by June Matthews (B/F, age 44) of New Orleans. The pickup and the Century both travelled into the median. The Century came to a stop in the median and the pickup continued across the median and onto the westbound lane of Interstate 10. The pickup struck a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, being driven by Ysmael Cano Paniagua (Hispanic Male, age 49) of Mexico. The Blazer then overturned at least two times and came to rest in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10. All the occupants of all the vehicles were properly restrained when the crash occurred and no one was seriously injured. Zane Blanchard (W/M, age 82) of Belle Rose was in the right front seat of the pickup. He sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. There were two juveniles, ages 9 and 13 in the back seat of the Buick; neither were injured. Ramon Garcia (H/M, age 21) was in the front passenger seat of the Blazer. Garcia sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. The recent rash of fatal crashes in the Troop A area is a serious reminder of the importance of seat belt use. The likelihood of serious injury and death is reduced greatly when restraints are properly used in vehicles. This crash is a wonderful example of the importance of seatbelt use. Seven individuals involved in this high-speed collision including an overturned vehicle with no major injuries or deaths – definitely something to be thankful for.
