Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE Motorcyclist Charged With Manslaughter This afternoon, Louisiana State Police – Troop A booked a Walker Resident for his role in a crash that occurred at 11:15 PM, on Monday, June 23, 2008. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 16 south of LA Hwy 1033 in Livingston Parish. A Suzuki GSXR 750 motorcycle traveled south on LA Hwy 16. As the roadway curved to the right, the motorcycle continued straight and exited the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway, the Suzuki struck a road sign, became airborne, and flipped several times. Prior to coming to rest in a field, the driver and passenger were ejected. The passenger, Stephanie E. Futrell (Female/Age 19) of Walker, LA, sustained serious injuries and was transported by Acadian AirMed to Our Lady of The Lake Hospital. On the night of June 25, 2008, Troop A was informed by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office that Ms. Futrell was pronounced dead by the hospital staff. The driver, Daniel H. Varnado (Male/Age 24) of Walker, LA, sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Our Lady of The Lake Hospital. On June 27, 2008, troopers booked Mr. Varnado into the Livingston Parish Jail for Careless Operation and Manslaughter. Speed is suspected to be a factor in this crash, both occupants were wearing a helmet, and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. For more information contact: S/T Johnnie L.
