Baton Rouge Resident Arrested for False Claims

March 7, 2008

At 2:00 PM, on Thursday, March 6, 2008, Louisiana State Police, Insurance Fraud detectives and Department of Public Safety investigators arrested a Baton Rouge, LA resident for Insurance Fraud and Filing False Public Records. The investigation of the alleged crimes began August 2007 and resulted with the arrest of Gregory L. Mumphrey.

Detectives and investigators received information about a man who walked onto a crash scene and pretended to be a passenger in the vehicle struck by another. This is a common practice known as “jumping in” a crash. The additional occupant later identified as Mr. Mumphrey, allowed the officer to complete the crash report with false information and went on to obtain an attorney to file an injury claim with an insurance company.

Mr. Mumphrey was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail for Insurance Fraud and Filing False Public Records.
