| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE State Police, Troop A – News Release For Immediate Release A Half Kilo of Drugs off the Streets March 8, 2008 At 5:51 AM, on March 7, 2008, Louisiana State Police, Troop A troopers were able to prevent a ½ kilogram (kilo) of cocaine from reaching its destination. The seizure and arrest took place on Interstate 12 (I-12) east of Albany, LA in Tangipahoa Parish. While conducting traffic enforcement eastbound on I-12, a trooper observed a Volkswagen, driven by Monteles Terrell Burden (twenty-two year old male) from Crestview, FL, commit a traffic violation. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and the Volkswagen pulled over. While talking to Mr. Burden, the trooper noticed his trip was very unusual and he appeared to be very nervous. The trooper requested permission to search the vehicle, but the request was denied. Niko, the Troop A K-9, and his handler were called to assist with the investigation. Niko alerted on a location to the rear of the Volkswagen which resulted in troopers conducting a search of the vehicle. Two bags were located in the trunk of the car. One of the bags contained two clear plastic bags that held a combined total of 505 grams (½ kilo) of a substance believed to be cocaine. Mr. Burden and his passenger, Archie C. Parks (twenty-four year old male) from Crestview, FL, were placed under arrest and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Drugs (Cocaine).
