| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE State Police, Troop A – News Release For Immediate Release Public Servant Removed From Office March 8, 2008 At 11:00 AM, today, a task force comprised of investigators from the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, Amite and Roseland Fire Departments, and Amite and Roseland Police Departments gathered to announce the arrest of a an Amite City Police Officer and a Roseland Volunteer Firefighter. The arrest stems from a series of fires that occurred at Oak Forrest Academy, Easley Park Recreation Center, and three vacant residential dwellings with a total dollar loss estimated at $50,000.00. While investigating a sixth fire on March 8, 2008, investigators took Mr. Lee Widas, an Amite City Police Officer and a Roseland Volunteer Firefighter, into custody and questioned him as a possible suspect in the fires. After examining Mr. Widas’s statements, investigators were able to link him to previously mentioned fires and placed him under arrest for Simple Arson (six counts). As a result of his arrest, the Amite City Police Chief has suspended Mr. Widas, a twenty-three year old male, of Roseland, LA, from his duties as an Amite City Police Officer and he will be recommended for termination.
