Ponchatoula Woman charged in Fatality Crash

Hammond, LA – Yesterday evening at 6:27 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 1040 (Old Baton Rouge Highway) at the intersection with N. Billville Road in Tangipahoa Parish.

The crash occurred as Leanne Keen (W/F age 18) of Ponchatoula, LA, was traveling north on N. Billville Road in a 2005 Mercury Marquis. A 2004 Scion XA compact, driven by Kimberly Hadden (W/F age 43) of Hammond, LA, was traveling east on LA 1040. As the Mercury Marquis approached the intersection of N. Billville Road and LA 1040, Keen failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection and impacted the right passenger side of the Scion. After impact, the Scion XA ran off road to the left, entered a ditch, and overturned before coming to rest on the north side of the roadway.

Hadden was not wearing a seatbelt and received fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol use is not suspected.

Keen was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to North Oaks Medical Center with minor injuries. Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash with a blood sample pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Upon release from the hospital, Keen was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail charged with Failure to Yield at a Stop Sign and Negligent Homicide.

While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.
Buckle UP!! Seatbelts Save Lives.
