Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release December 2nd, 2010 Madisonville Woman arrested in Doctor Shopping Investigation As part of a continuing effort to combat prescription medication fraud, Louisiana State Police Narcotic Detectives have charged a Madisonville woman with 25 counts of fraudulently obtaining a controlled dangerous substance. LA Revised Statute 40:971B(1)(i), often referred to as “Doctor Shopping”, makes it illegal for individuals to obtain or seek to obtain any controlled dangerous substance or a prescription for a controlled dangerous substance from multiple health care practitioners without disclosing the existing prescription. Based on information provided by an area doctor, Louisiana State Police Region I Narcotic Detectives began an investigation into a Madisonville resident for possible doctor shopping. Further investigation revealed that the Madisonville resident, identified as Janine Bulmer (W/F age 39), visited numerous medical offices seeking the same prescription from multiple physicians. Over a 10 month period, Bulmer visited 12 doctors and 10 different pharmacies throughout the Covington, Mandeville, and Slidell area where she received and filled multiple prescriptions for Hydrocodone. During the investigation, LSP detectives learned that Bulmer was currently already on probation for the same offense. Upon contact with Bulmer’s probation agent, a probation revocation hearing was scheduled on December 2nd, 2010 where her probation was revoked. Immediately after the hearing, Bulmer was additionally charged with the 25 counts of Doctor Shopping related to the LSP investigation. Bulmer was booked at the St. Tammany Parish Jail without incident. Contact Information:
