Slidell – Last night at 10:30 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a fatality crash on Interstate 12 approximately two miles east of U.S. 11 at milepost #85 in St. Tammany Parish.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Benjamin Hendrick (W/M age 52) of Slidell, LA, was traveling east on Interstate 12. As the Chevrolet pickup proceeded eastbound, Hendrick observed a white male pedestrian enter into his lane of travel walking southbound across the interstate. Upon trying to avoid the pedestrian, Hendrick veered to the left impacting the while male with the right front bumper and windshield of his vehicle. The pedestrian was thrown onto the right shoulder upon impact and came to rest partially in the grass on the south side of Interstate 12.

The white male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Notification is still pending to the next of kin.

Hendrick was wearing a seatbelt and received no injuries as a result of the crash. He submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
