Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release January 27th, 2011 Troopers discover $20,000 in Drug Funds during Traffic Stop Covington- This morning at 7:55 am, troopers assigned to the Louisiana State Police Criminal Patrols Unit stopped a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria for following too closely on Interstate 12. Upon interviewing the driver, Shaneika Eaglin (B/F age 27), and passenger, Devin White (B/M age 22), both from South Carolina, troopers noticed discrepancies in the purpose of their trip and signs of nervousness from both occupants. After request to search the vehicle was denied by Eaglin, troopers called a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit to the scene, at which time the K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in $20,000 in cash found in the trunk. Both occupants and the vehicle where transported to Troop L for further investigation where both Eaglin and White denied ownership of the currency. The currency was seized by Louisiana State Police Narcotic Detectives and both occupants were released with the vehicle. No charges have been filed at this time.
