| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release February 2nd, 2011 Medical Condition suspected Factor in Tangipahoa Crash This morning at 8:30am, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a fatality crash on LA 1057 approximately 9 miles east of Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 2007 Volvo 18 wheeler, driven by Douglas Magee (W/M age 72) of Sandy Hook, MS, was traveling westbound over the big creek bridge on LA 1057 when it veered to the right striking the bridge guardrail. The 18 wheeler maintained contact with the guardrail for the length of the bridge before running off road to the right and overturning onto its left side. Magee was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Troopers suspect that Magee possibly experienced a medical emergency causing him to lose control of the vehicle while traveling westbound on LA 1057. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol use is not suspected.
