| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release March 11, 2011 Bogalusa Resident arrested in LA 21 Fatal Crash Shortly after midnight on March 11, 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 21 in Washington Parish approximately one mile north of the St. Tammany / Washington Parish line. Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 2006 Honda CRV, driven by Grant Paquid (B/M age 25) of Bogalusa, LA, was traveling north on LA 21 in the right lane of travel. Traveling ahead of the Honda CRV was a 1999 Ford pickup truck driven by Douglas Pounds (W/M age 68) of Sun, LA. As the Honda proceeded north on LA 21 at a high rate of speed, it rear ended the Ford pickup causing the truck to rotate clockwise and overturn as it ran off road to the right. Upon leaving the roadway, the Ford pickup flipped several times before coming to rest upright on its wheels facing an easterly direction. Pounds was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to the LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa in serious condition. He was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. Alcohol use is suspected with a blood sample pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Paquid was wearing a seatbelt and received no injuries in the crash. He submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system. Paquid was booked into the Washington Parish Jail on charges of Negligent Homicide, Driving with a Suspended License, and Following too Closely.
