Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release March 11, 2011 Marijuana Plants discovered during I-12 Traffic Stop Yesterday evening at 7:45 pm, troopers assigned to the Louisiana State Police Criminal Patrols Unit stopped a 2006 Chrysler minivan for a traffic violation while traveling westbound on Interstate 12 at milepost #54 in St. Tammany Parish. Upon interviewing the driver, Maykel Lopez (H/M age 32) of Cape Coral, FL, troopers noticed signs of nervousness and asked for consent to search the vehicle. After obtaining consent, troopers discovered two storage bins in the rear of the van containing 98 marijuana plants. Lopez was subsequently booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for Possession and Cultivation of Marijuana.
