Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release March 18th, 2011 Traffic Stop leads to Marijuana Seizure Covington- This morning at 7:11 am, troopers assigned to the Louisiana State Police Criminal Patrols Unit stopped a 2003 Toyota SUV for a traffic violation while traveling on Interstate 12 at milepost #61 in St. Tammany Parish. Upon interviewing the driver, Dillon McDonald (W/M age 18) of Fort Walton, FL, and passenger, Cayman Shoemaker (W/M age 20) of Warner Robins, GA, troopers noticed discrepancies in the purpose of their trip and signs of nervousness from both occupants. After request to search the vehicle was denied by McDonald, troopers utilized a narcotic detecting K-9 which alerted to the odor of narcotics from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 4.4 pounds of Marijuana found in the trunk. Both McDonald and Shoemaker were taken into custody and charged with Possession of Marijuana. McDonald was additionally charged with Following Too Closely. Both men were booked without incident at the St. Tammany Parish Jail in Covington.
