Driver killed in Collision on Interstate 10

Slidell – Last night at 09:15 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 10 approximately half a mile south of the Interstate 10, 12, and 59 junction in St. Tammany Parish.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 2002 Chrysler Concord was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when, for unknown reasons, it veered to the left crossing the center median and entering the westbound side of the interstate. Upon entering the westbound lanes of I-10, the Chrysler impacted an oncoming 2002 Freightliner 18 wheeler traveling west in the center lane. After impact with the Freightliner, the Chrysler split in half ejecting the driver onto the westbound lanes of the interstate.

The driver of the Chrysler Concord, Matthew Weller (W/M age 19) of Slidell, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Due to the extent of the vehicle damage, seatbelt use unknown. A toxicology analysis is pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

The driver of the Freightliner 18 wheeler, Donald Grover (B/M age 49) of Darrow, LA, received no injuries in the crash. He submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system.
