Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release March 3rd, 2011 Doctor Shopping Investigation leads to Arrest of Slidell Resident Louisiana State Police Narcotic Detectives have charged a Slidell woman with 47 counts of fraudulently obtaining a controlled dangerous substance following an investigation into alleged “Doctor Shopping”. Troopers’ investigation revealed that Linda LeBlanc (W/F age 63) visited numerous medical offices seeking the same prescription from multiple physicians. Over an 11 month period, LeBlanc visited 12 doctors and 12 different pharmacies throughout the Slidell and Metairie area where she received and filled multiple prescriptions for Zolpidem Tartrate (Ambien), Hydrocodone, Meperidine, and Oxycodone. On March 3rd, 2011, LeBlanc turned herself into troopers at the St. Tammany Parish Jail where she was booked on 47 counts of “Doctor Shopping”. LA Revised Statute 40:971B(1)(i), often referred to as “Doctor Shopping”, makes it illegal for individuals to obtain or seek to obtain any controlled dangerous substance or a prescription for a controlled dangerous substance from multiple health care practitioners without disclosing the existing prescription.
