| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release February 20th, 2011 Mississippi Man succumbs to Injuries following I-10 Crash Slidell – Last night at 10:25 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle crash on Interstate 10 at the U.S. 190 overpass in St. Tammany Parish. The crash occurred as a 2009 Smart SRS car was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when, for unknown reasons, it drifted to the left impacting the eastbound guardrail on the U.S. 190 overpass. The Smart car then continued east on the left shoulder for approximately 125 feet before crossing the center median and impacting the westbound lane’s guardrail causing it to overturn and flip several times. As the Smart car came to rest across the westbound lanes of Interstate 10, it was impacted by a 2011 Hyundai SUV traveling westbound in the center lane. The driver of the Smart car, Justin Lepine (W/M age 23) of Picayune, MS, was transported to the Ochsner Northshore Medical Center with serious injuries. On February 20, 2011, Troop L was notified by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office that Lepine had been pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. Lepine was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol use is suspected to be a factor. The driver of the 2011 Hyundai, Sue Celestin (B/F age 22) of New Orleans, LA, received minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital. Celestin was wearing her seatbelt and alcohol use is not suspected. A blood sample from both drivers was obtained and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
