Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release June 20th, 2010 Troopers intercept Drug Shipment on Interstate 12 Covington- Today at 1:50 pm, Louisiana State Police Troopers assigned to the HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) task force stopped a 2006 Mack 18 wheeler towing a grain trailer for a traffic violation. The traffic stop was made on Interstate 12 eastbound at milepost 63 in St. Tammany Parish. The driver of the truck was identified as fifty-four year old Nick Housinger of Auxier, KY. Upon speaking with Housinger, troopers noted that he appeared to be very nervous and gave inconsistent stories regarding his travel plans. Housinger provided verbal and written consent for the vehicle to be searched. During the search of the vehicle, troopers discovered a large hidden compartment in the front portion of the trailer. Further inspection of the compartment, revealed 78 bundles wrapped in plastic that was determined to be Marijuana. Troopers transported Housinger and the 18 wheeler to Troop L where the total weight of the Marijuana was measured to be 1,138 pounds. The estimated street value of the narcotics is approximately $796,000.00. Housinger was charged with Following Too Closely and Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. He was booked without incident at the St. Tammany Parish Jail in Covington. Contact Information:
