| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release October 1st, 2010 Covington Teen killed in U.S. 190 Crash Covington – Yesterday at 06:20 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on U.S. 190 east of LA 1077 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash occurred as Angelle Ulfers, (W/F age 16) of Covington, LA, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 190 in a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder when she attempted to pass several vehicles within a no passing zone. As Ulfers crossed the centerline of U.S. 190, she entered the westbound lane directly into the path of a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Floyd Stokes, (B/M age 50) of Independence, LA. Upon entering into the path of the Chevrolet pickup, Ulfers veered to the left leaving the roadway before overcorrecting back to the right causing the Pathfinder to rotate clockwise as it reentered the westbound lane of U.S. 190. As the Nissan Pathfinder crossed the westbound lane, it was impacted on its left side by the Chevrolet pickup truck. Ulfers was airlifted to St. Tammany Parish Hospital in critical condition. She was later transported to the University Medical Center in New Orleans where she died as a result of her injuries. Ulfers was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Stokes was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to the Louisiana Medical Center and Heart Hospital with moderate injuries. Alcohol use is not suspected with a toxicology test pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
