| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE September 23, 2017 Clinton Man Killed in Four Vehicle East Feliciana Parish Crash CLINTON – Shortly before 12:30 pm on September 23, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a four vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on LA Hwy 10 east of LA Hwy 960 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 66 year old James R. Felker of Clinton, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 41 year old Daniel W. Jonson of Marshall, TX was traveling westbound on LA 10 in a 2012 Mack tractor-trailer. A westbound 2015 Dodge Durango driven by 65 year old Karl Ebert of Ethel, LA and a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 34 year old Christie Griffith of Harvey, LA were slowing for a left turning vehicle in the westbound lane of travel on LA 10. At the same time, Felker was traveling eastbound on LA 10 in a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup. For reasons still under investigation, as Jonson approached the slowing vehicles, he attempted to brake but his Mack entered into the eastbound lane of travel. As a result, the Mack struck the Sierra head-on. The Mack then struck the Durango and the Silverado. Despite the fact that he was properly restrained, Felker suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Both Ebert and Griffith were properly restrained, and were uninjured in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor on their part. Jonson was properly restrained at the time of the crash, but suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor on his part, but a toxicology sample was taken from him, the results of which are pending. Jonson was placed under arrest and charged with Negligent homicide and Careless operation, and will be booked into the E. Feliciana Parish jail. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive while impaired or fatigued, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws. Taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death. Contact Information: | |||
