Tangipahoa Woman charged with Insurance Fraud

On July 20th, 2010, investigators with the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud Unit arrested Tomekia M. Coney, (B/F age 33) of Hammond, LA, on the charges of Insurance Fraud and Filing Public Records. The arrest resulted from an investigation into a complaint made by the GEICO Insurance Company.

The investigation revealed that Coney had allowed a co-worker to use her vehicle, at which time the co-worker was involved in a crash with another vehicle insured by GEICO. Coney was able to arrive at the crash scene prior to the arrival of the investigating officer and claimed to be the driver of the vehicle. Despite Coney’s claims, the co-worker also admitted to driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. The investigating officer was unable to determine the actual driver of the vehicle and noted the discrepancies in his report. Coney subsequently filed a bodily injury claim with GEICO.

During the course of the investigation, detectives obtained time clock records from Coney’s employer showing that Coney was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Coney turned herself in and was booked without incident into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on the above charges.
