| TROOP L NEWS RELEASE April 2nd, 2012 **UPDATE** The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian victim as 50 year old Joan Walters of Ponchatoula, LA. Troopers are continuing their investigation into the events of the crash. Troopers Seek Assistance Identifying Pedestrian in I-55 Crash Hammond, LA – On March 30th, 2012 shortly after 9:00 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 55 approximately one mile north of Interstate 12 in Tangipahoa Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 20 year old Brandon Carral of Amite, LA, was traveling south in the right lane of Interstate 55. As the Chevrolet continued south, a white female pedestrian entered the southbound lane from the west side of the interstate stepping directly into the path of Carral’s vehicle. Carral was unable to avoid the pedestrian and struck the white female with the right front end of the Chevrolet. Carral was wearing a seatbelt and received no injuries in the crash. He submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system. The white female pedestrian sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol and/or drug impairment for the pedestrian is unknown at this time pending toxicology results at the coroner’s office. Troopers are continuing their investigation into the events of the crash and efforts to identify the pedestrian are ongoing.
