Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release May 11th, 2011 Sobriety Checkpoints to be held throughout Troop L Area Louisiana State Police Troop L will conduct DWI Checkpoints this week in Tangipahoa and St. Tammany Parish. The checkpoints will begin at approximately 9 pm in St. Tammany Parish and 10 pm in Tangipahoa Parish. Troopers will conduct the checkpoints with the assistance of the St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Offices. Every year on the highways across the state of Louisiana, numerous people are killed or injured by impaired drivers. Sobriety checkpoints are an effective enforcement tool serving as a deterrent to impaired and drunken driving. The task of stopping these impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. By never allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and reporting dangerous drivers to law enforcement, the public can play an important role in the reduction of crashes caused by impaired drivers. Remember, the only designated driver is the person who has had NO ALCOHOL.
